Situated on the former Rufford Colliery coal stockyard near Mansfield in Nottinghamshire, the 7.5MW/7.5MWh storage facility is a secure, enclosed 0.5-acre site adjacent to an operational substation. Built in a double-layer stacked configuration, the facility was commissioned in September 2017 as the UK’s seventh operational storage station. It is owned by Gresham House Strategic, operated by Noriker Power, and fitted with LG batteries.
Images from the fire service show thick smoke and flames in two stacked containers. The Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that the fire involved a lithium-ion storage system and that there were no injuries. Crews were deployed from four stations at 6:55 am.
Firefighters remained on site until 1 pm, and an investigation will follow once the fire is fully contained.
