38GW! Masdar & EWEC Partner for UAE PV-Storage Scheme

PVTIME – Masdar and EWEC have announced a strategic partnership to deliver over 30GW of PV projects and over 8GW of BESS in the UAE.

This collaboration will streamline project development and financing, accelerating the deployment of renewable energy in the region and supporting the UAE’s goal of generating 60% of its energy from clean sources by 2035, as well as its net-zero ambitions. Masdar will play a more prominent role throughout the lifecycle of EWEC’s renewable energy projects, from the initial stages of development to financial close.

EWEC CEO Ahmed Ali Alshamsi says that the agreement is a key strategic tool for driving the national energy transition, securing long-term supply, cutting costs, and optimising operations. The partnership will reshape the region’s energy sector and ensure grid stability by providing over 8GW of integrated storage.

Building on their existing partnership, which includes the 1.5GW Al Ajban project and the 2GW Al Dhafra PV plant, Masdar is constructing EWEC’s world-first large-scale RTC GW-scale project. This project will combine 5GW of PV and 19GWh of storage to deliver 1GW of continuous baseload renewable energy.

GlobalData forecasts that the UAE’s PV installed capacity will rise from 6.7GW in 2025 to over 32GW by 2035.
