€110M! MosaHYc Hydrogen Pipeline Between France and Germany Reaches FID

PVTIME – GRTgaz and Creos Deutschland Wasserstoff have made the final investment decision on the cross-border MosaHYc hydrogen pipeline, which will link France and Germany. The approximately 90km network is scheduled to enter service in 2027, initially supplying up to 50,000 tonnes of hydrogen per year to the ROGESA steel plant in Dillingen.

The €110 million project comprises approximately 50km of pipeline in France, 45 km of which will be converted from existing gas infrastructure, as well as around 40km in Germany, including 20km of new pipeline. GRTgaz will invest €40 million in the French section, supported by the France 2030 programme administered by ADEME. Creos Deutschland Wasserstoff will invest €70 million on the German side.

The pipeline will connect Bouzonville, Carling and Saint-Avold in France with Perl, Saarlouis, Völklingen and Dillingen in Saarland. ROGESA, a joint venture between Dillinger and Stahl-Holding-Saar, will use the hydrogen for its Power4Steel low-carbon steelmaking process.

The project has been designated a Project of Common Interest by the European Commission and holds Important Project of Common European Interest status in Germany. Implementation in Germany remains subject to a final federal funding decision. The network will operate transparently and non-discriminatorily and will be open to additional producers and consumers.
