PVTIME – Abu Dhabi has increased its solar photovoltaic target for 2035 to 35GW, supported by the planned addition of 15GW of battery energy storage capacity.

This updated target is supported by the 5.2GW round-the-clock solar and storage project, which is being developed jointly by Masdar and the Emirates Water and Electricity Company (EWEC). This facility will combine a 5.2GW solar photovoltaic plant with a 19GWh battery energy storage system, and is designed to deliver up to 1GW of continuous clean power. Commercial operation is expected to begin in 2027.
