PVTIME – On 6 May, Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Energy announced that the country’s renewable energy generation had reached 2.3 billion kWh in the first quarter of 2026, marking a 15% year-on-year increase. The update outlined the nation’s ambitious plans to increase its renewable energy capacity over the next ten years.

In 2026, Kazakhstan plans to commission 10 new renewable energy projects, including four wind farms, five solar stations, and one hydropower plant. These projects will add 245MW of additional installed capacity. Official data confirms that renewables contributed 7% to the country’s total electricity generation in 2025, and the target is to increase this figure to 15% by 2030.
The Ministry noted that international firms, including TotalEnergies, China Power International Development, Masdar and China Energy Engineering Group, are already involved in the country’s renewable sector. By 2035, Kazakhstan plans to add over 8GW of renewable capacity, which the Ministry states will strengthen grid stability, boost energy security, and diversify the energy mix.
