PVTIME – Guoxin Zhu, the Australian country manager of photovoltaic inverter and energy storage equipment supplier Growatt, has been charged with bribery following a joint investigation by the Australian Federal Police, the Queensland Police Service, and the National Anti-Corruption Commission.

Operation Yankee Borderland was initiated by law enforcement after a female Commonwealth official reported an irregular gift handed over at a product approval meeting in Camp Hill, Brisbane, on 9 July. The tea package delivered by the suspect contained AUD 20,000 in cash, allegedly intended to influence official decisions on the company’s renewable product certification applications. Investigators monitored the manager’s travel within Australia for more than two weeks before arresting him at Sydney International Airport on 24 July, when he was attempting to board an international outbound flight. Queensland authorities obtained extradition approval at a Surry Hills bail hearing the following day and transferred the defendant to Brisbane overnight.
He appeared at Brisbane Magistrates Court on 27 July, facing one count of offering a secret commission to an agent under section 442BA(b) of the Queensland Criminal Code. Magistrate Clare Kelly refused the bail application, despite submissions from the defence, on the grounds of strong evidence from the prosecution, the severity of the alleged conduct, and a significant flight risk. Defence representatives maintained that the planned departure was part of a pre-arranged business trip rather than an escape attempt, a position contested by prosecution counsel. The case awaits subsequent court hearings and a final verdict after a full assessment of the evidence.
The bribery allegation has created unexpected compliance risks for Growatt’s plans in the capital markets. On 16 June 2026, the manufacturer filed its third Hong Kong IPO application with the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, and its listing prospectus identified cross-border anti-bribery compliance as a key risk factor for the proposed public offering.
