PVTIME – On 28 July 2026, the US Federal Communications Commission revised its Covered List to include foreign-manufactured power inverters and advanced mobile robots for the first time under its supply chain security rules.
These imported goods are deemed to pose an unacceptable threat to national and public security in the United States. Regulators have identified supply chain vulnerabilities, economic security risks and significant cybersecurity issues that could jeopardise the stable operation of critical domestic infrastructure. The updated rule came into effect immediately, meaning that new product variants cannot obtain FCC equipment certification and are prohibited from being imported, sold or distributed within the country.
However, the policy sets clear exceptions for inverters endorsed by the Department of Defense or the Department of Homeland Security. A formal interagency assessment pathway has been launched to enable overseas producers to apply for risk verification. If reviews conclude that a product poses no unacceptable national security risks, conditional clearance will remove the item from the regulated roster. The two federal bodies in question retain the power to conduct technical evaluations of submitted inverter products.
