PVTIME – DEME has completed the installation of the 68th and final monopile foundation at the 980MW Nordlicht I offshore wind farm in the German North Sea. This marks the successful conclusion of the project’s monopile installation campaign. With all foundations now in place, the project will move on to the turbine installation phase.

Situated approximately 85 kilometres north of the German island of Borkum, Nordlicht I is being developed by Vattenfall and will be Germany’s largest offshore wind facility upon completion. Construction of the monopiles began in July 2026, followed by installation of the transition pieces in August 2026. DEME deployed its heavy-lift installation vessel Orion to deliver the foundation transport and installation scope for this project.
Nordlicht I forms one half of the wider Nordlicht offshore wind cluster; its sister site, Nordlicht II, will add a further 630MW of capacity. DEME holds the contract for the transport and installation of the foundations for both projects, covering a total of 112 monopile foundations, plus associated scour protection works. BASF holds a 49 per cent equity stake in the Nordlicht cluster joint venture alongside lead developer Vattenfall. The two-farm complex is scheduled for full commissioning in 2028, delivering low-carbon power to German households and industrial consumers.
