100MWh Romanian BESS project breaks ground

PVTIME – Construction work has formally commenced on a 100MWh grid-scale battery energy storage facility in Romania, developed jointly by Parapet and MetaWealth.

Parapet is responsible for the engineering, procurement and construction of the project, while MetaWealth is leading on investment for the standalone storage site located in Neamț County. The facility has a power rating of 50MW and an energy capacity of 100MWh, and is expected to begin commercial operations in spring 2027.

This marks tangible progress for MetaWealth’s broader Romanian battery storage pipeline. This asset is the first in a national programme totalling roughly 850MWh of prospective storage capacity across the country to move into physical build.

Once commissioned, the battery installation will enhance Romania’s power grid flexibility, facilitating the integration of more domestic renewable power generation. Civil site activities are running in parallel with equipment deliveries for the scheme. No further financial figures for this individual development have been publicly released.
