150MW green-hydrogen scheme moves forward for ITM Power

PVTIME – UK-based electrolyser specialist ITM Power has made significant progress towards large-scale green hydrogen deployment by entering into preliminary development arrangements for a 150MW hydrogen scheme.

The heads-of-terms agreement was concluded by Hydropulse, ITM Power’s dedicated build-own-operate subsidiary, with a European oil refinery partner that has not been named. Under the proposed plan, Hydropulse will use ITM Power’s Alpha electrolyser platform to deliver on-site green hydrogen generation to supply the refinery’s industrial operations.

The heads of terms establish the commercial framework for project advancement, though the initiative still requires further technical appraisal and a final investment decision before construction can proceed. This BOO model eliminates the need for the refinery end-user to incur direct capital expenditure on equipment, while providing it with decarbonised hydrogen for its refining workflows.

The deal expands ITM Power’s industrial hydrogen project portfolio across continental Europe. It demonstrates the growing market demand for large-capacity electrolysers to reduce carbon emissions in difficult-to-abate industrial sectors. No financial details of the preliminary arrangement have been disclosed. ITM Power will issue further public updates as project milestones are achieved.
