UK offshore wind project hits cable‑lay milestone

PVTIME – According to project updates released on 27 October 2026, Seaway7 has hit a major construction milestone at the UK’s 1.4GW East Anglia THREE offshore wind scheme by finishing the full rollout of all inter-array offshore cables.

The engineering contractor deployed 95 separate inter-array cables, with a combined length of over 240 kilometres. Each cable was transported, laid, and secured onto pre-installed offshore monopile foundations around 69 kilometres off the Suffolk coast. This milestone follows Seaway7’s completion of the mounting of all 95 monopile bases and their corresponding transition pieces for the project.

Developed jointly by ScottishPower Renewables and Masdar, East Anglia THREE will comprise 95 turbines, each with a rated capacity of around 14.7MW. Once fully operational, the facility will generate enough zero-carbon electricity to power over 1.3 million UK homes.

While the cable laying work is now complete, critical follow-on activities are still underway across the site. Field teams are carrying out cable trenching, electrical termination and comprehensive system testing ahead of commissioning. The project is a vital part of Britain’s strategy to increase North Sea offshore wind capacity and achieve national renewable energy targets.
