$600m! Blue bond backs Masdar global offshore-wind push

PVTIME – Masdar has secured USD 600 million of fresh financing via its inaugural blue bond issuance, with the capital proceeds ring-fenced for developing international offshore wind and other maritime renewable energy assets, according to the market announcement on 27 October 2026.

This five-year instrument sits under Masdar’s USD 6 billion Global Medium-Term Note Programme and has been assigned an AA- credit rating by both S&P and Fitch. This marks the highest-rated public corporate blue bond globally to date. Listed on the International Securities Market of the London Stock Exchange, the bond has a 5.875% US dollar coupon and has been swapped into euros at a yield of 4.374%, thus aligning financing terms with Masdar’s substantial European investment footprint.

Investor appetite for the offering proved robust amid tough prevailing market conditions. The order book peaked at USD 1.5 billion, translating to 2.5 times oversubscription from a broad pool of regional and international backers. A group of seven major global banks acted as joint lead managers and bookrunners for the transaction.

This financing move comes shortly after Masdar signed collaborative agreements with European developers RWE and Luxcara in September. These agreements lay the groundwork for joint offshore wind projects and potential participation in Germany’s 2027 offshore wind auction rounds. Since 2023, Masdar’s overall bond vehicle has raised a cumulative total of USD 3.35 billion.
