RWE Advances 20 MWp A44n Motorway Solar Expansion

PVTIME – RWE is pressing ahead with the second phase of development of its solar installation along the stretch of the A44n motorway between Bedburg and Jüchen in Germany. The structural mounting work for the new solar arrays has been finalised, and the 20MWp capacity extension is on track for grid integration and an operational launch in Q4 of this year.

Once complete, the expanded site will have a total peak generation capacity of over 100MWp, utilising 171,600 solar modules deployed along the motorway corridor. RWE’s analysis confirms that the completed asset will generate enough electricity each year to power around 34,000 homes.

The first sections of the motorway solar scheme entered service last year, with 141,000 modules currently generating power. The remaining 30,600 modules programmed for the full build are due to be installed and commissioned by the end of 2026.
