PV Inverter Fire Causes Significant Damage at Katsina Central Market

PVTIME – A fire in the early hours of Tuesday has destroyed ten commercial outlets at the central market in Katsina, in northern Nigeria. The fire was traced back to a faulty photovoltaic inverter, which sparked a rapidly spreading blaze across the market.

The Katsina State Fire Service confirmed that its teams attended the scene immediately after receiving emergency alerts. The severe intensity of the flames led to the complete destruction of ten stores specialising in food, drinks and textile products before the fire was fully contained. Fire crews managed to preserve seven neighbouring shops and their inventory, preventing wider structural damage throughout the market.

The authority has advised all users of PV equipment to adopt standard electrical connection practices and carry out regular maintenance. Regular professional maintenance is recommended to mitigate potential fire hazards associated with renewable energy hardware.
