PVTIME – Work on commissioning a major grid-scale battery facility in South Australia has begun. The facility is being delivered by e-STORAGE, the energy storage division of Canadian Solar. With a capacity of 240MW/960MWh, the asset is owned by Intera Renewables and is moving into the final phase before handover to the commercial operator.

e-STORAGE is responsible for the turnkey delivery of the Summerfield BESS site. With physical construction largely complete, on-site testing and energisation procedures are now underway to validate system performance ahead of grid connection. Once operational, this large-scale battery installation will reinforce local grid resilience by absorbing surplus renewable generation and dispatching power during periods of high demand across South Australia.
The development is one of Australia’s most substantial new battery storage assets. No financial figures for the commissioning phase have been disclosed. Market participants will monitor further technical and operational updates as the project moves towards completion.
