PVTIME – According to the latest data released by WindEurope, Europe added 8.8GW of new wind power capacity in the first half of 2026, representing a 30% year-on-year increase.
This growth was driven by strong performance in both the onshore and offshore segments. Onshore wind accounted for 6.5GW of new installations, while offshore wind contributed 2.3GW, representing a significant increase of 213% compared to the same period last year.
Germany was the main driver of this growth, contributing 3.4GW to the total. Based on this momentum, WindEurope forecasts that Europe’s total new wind installations for 2026 could reach 24GW, setting a new historical record for the region.
