35.5%! LONGi Hits New Tandem Cell Efficiency Record, Unveils Full Technology Forest Portfolio

PVTIME – At the Solar and Energy Storage Innovation Conference held at Shanghai Jiao Tong University on 14 July 2026, LONGi unveiled its new world record for tandem cell efficiency. Independent verification by the European Solar Test Installation confirmed that its in-house-developed crystalline silicon-perovskite tandem solar cells achieved a conversion efficiency of 35.5%. The PV giant also officially launched its innovative Technology Forest system, which showcases a full range of upgraded PV and energy storage technologies.

Focusing on the flagship Alloy Contact Matrix and integrated conductive backsheet technologies, the Technology Forest system creates a comprehensive technical ecosystem that enhances cell efficiency, module reliability, and system intelligence. The shingling technology enables precise 0.4mm overlapping of solar cell edges, converting conventional 2-3mm inactive gaps into power-generating areas and increasing effective module power output by 2%. When paired with 40µm ultra-thin metal foil materials and low-temperature interconnection processes, the integrated conductive backsheet resolves the stress concentration and cell fragmentation issues that are inherent in traditional shingling manufacturing.

Hidden busbar technology eliminates the need for exposed busbar structures on the front side, reducing shading loss and increasing the effective light-receiving area of modules by 1.1%. Using 40μm ultra-thin metal foils instead of traditional thick solder ribbons over 250μm avoids mechanical extrusion damage during production and operation cycles.

LONGi’s temperature-controlled alloy interconnection technology makes use of the grid-free front design of BC cells. With high-precision visual positioning for micron-level layout accuracy and low-temperature fusion processing, this technology effectively releases interfacial thermal stress, guaranteeing the long-term operational reliability of modules.

LONGi’s intelligent module technology provides each module with its own maximum power point tracking unit, eliminating output imbalances caused by shading and multi-orientation installations while boosting power generation by 5-30%. The dual active and passive rapid shutdown system delivers millisecond-level disconnection of individual modules and de-energisation of the entire station, reducing DC high voltage to below 30V within 20 seconds in order to mitigate fire risks and comply with global safety codes. Supported by the LONGi Smart PV app, the technology enables real-time, module-level monitoring and precise fault location, improving O&M efficiency. Having been certified by TÜV SÜD, the technology is set to be launched globally in Brazil on 25 August 2026, with mass production and delivery commencing in October of the same year.

LONGi One OS is an AI-powered, integrated energy management platform designed for PV generation, energy storage, charging, and load-collaborative scenarios. Integrating real-time electricity tariffs, generation forecasts, load data, meteorological statistics and historical power consumption records, it executes optimised charge and discharge strategies every 15 minutes to maximise energy storage asset returns. The built-in AI agent provides operational guidance, fault diagnosis and early warnings, reducing O&M technical barriers by 90%. The combination of all these innovative technologies enables standard 2382mm*1134mm modules to achieve a power output of 690W and a conversion efficiency of 25.54%.

The core value of the Technology Forest lies not only in existing commercial achievements, but also in LONGi’s continuous, independent R&D capabilities. LONGi states that its current commercial products stem from two to three years of prior verification and iteration, whereas its newly unveiled technologies originate from five to ten years of targeted R&D. Unpublished laboratory innovations are being developed to support the company’s long-term technical progress.
