30.83%! Auner Sets World Record for Large Tandem Solar Cell Efficiency

PVTIME – Beijing Yaoneng Technology Co. (Auner), a Chinese developer of perovskite and crystalline silicon lamination photovoltaic technology and manufacturer of photovoltaic cells and modules, announced on 11 May that its 25cm² large-size perovskite silicon tandem PV cell has achieved a stable conversion efficiency of 30.83% in the laboratory, which has been confirmed by China’s National Institute of Metrology, an authorised third-party testing organisation.

It is a breakthrough for Auner, as it further increased by 1.26% from the 29.57% certified record in February 2023 to exceed 30% conversion efficiency for its perovskite-silicon tandem PV cell. Meanwhile, it is also a milestone for the large-size perovskite-silicon tandem PV cell to achieve a new conversion efficiency record. Conversion efficiency for small-size perovskite tandem cells has increased dramatically in recent years, with the latest world record of 33.2% achieved by KAUST in the laboratory in April 2023, just ten months after the first efficiency record of 30% was announced by EPFL in July 2022.

In addition, this particular new record confirms Auner’s leading position in the R&D of perovskite silicon tandem solar cells, as the large size perovskite cells are closer to meeting the mass production needs of the PV industry, while the efficiency of the small size cells is considered to indicate the potential of perovskite tandem cell technology.

Furthermore, in early 2023, a pilot production base with production capacity of 2MW of perovskite products was established by Auner in Beijing City of China, and is currently starting the processing development of M6-G12 cell on an industrial level, which is planned to be operational within the year of 2023, as a wide range of issues in the production of large-size perovskite cells, including methods and processing, need to be addressed for commercialisation. The first mass production pilot line with a production capacity of 100 MW of perovskite-silicon tandem solar cells will then be launched in 2024. Focusing on the technology and processing of perovskite cells, Auner is continuously making breakthroughs to lead the perovskite cells and modules in the PV industry.
