2GW Solar Module Factory to Launch in India

PVTIME – Indian rooftop solar company Fujiyama Power has started the first phase of construction of a 2 GW solar module manufacturing plant in Ratlam, Madhya Pradesh. Once fully operational, the facility will have an annual production capacity of 2GW for solar modules, cells, and inverters, with the initial single-shift phase delivering 1GW per year ahead of gradual expansion. Full capacity is expected by Q4 2027.

The company is also constructing a 1.2GW TOPCon solar cell factory in Ratlam to augment its existing capabilities. This development is set to reinforce Fujiyama Power’s position in the residential rooftop market by capitalising on opportunities from the Indian government’s PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana residential solar incentive scheme.

Commissioning the first phase of the Ratlam module factory has increased Fujiyama’s total solar module manufacturing capacity to 3,568MW. Fujiyama Power Chairman Pawan Kumar Garg stated that the launch of the facility represented a key milestone in the company’s growth and manufacturing expansion strategy. He added that the new project would enhance Fujiyama’s ability to serve the rapidly growing domestic rooftop solar market by increasing its scale, improving its operational efficiency, and giving it greater control over its value chain.

However, Fujiyama noted that the production lines for inverters and solar cells on the same campus have been delayed due to the integration of newer lithium-ion battery technology and the impact of geopolitics on equipment supply timelines. The inverter line is expected to begin operating in Q1 2027, with the necessary equipment already on site. The solar cell line is scheduled to start in Q2 2027, with the relevant equipment orders already placed.

Earlier this year, the company commissioned a 1GW solar cell manufacturing plant in Dadri, Uttar Pradesh, with a total investment of 3 billion Indian rupees (approximately 32.7 million US dollars). The facility produces monocrystalline PERC solar cells that comply with India’s DCR, thereby supporting the country’s drive for localised solar manufacturing.
