World’s Largest Solar-Hydropower Plant Operates With 523.1MW Astronergy Astro Module

PVTIME – On 25 June 2023, the first phase of the Kela solar power plant, part of the largest hydro-solar power plant and the highest power plant of its kind in the world, is operational in Sichuan Province, China, with the installation of 523.1MW Astronergy ASTRO modules.

The Kela project is located on the West Sichuan Plateau at the highest altitude of 4600 metres, with a total installed capacity of 1000MW. The project is estimated to generate 2 billion kWh of electricity to power over 700,000 homes annually, saving 600,000 tonnes of standard coal and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by over 1.6 million tonnes.

The ASTRO series modules supplied by Astronergy were selected for the project due to their reliability, high efficiency and other performance characteristics under severe environmental conditions such as high winds, blizzards and high altitude freezing, ensuring the efficient, stable and long-term operation of the power plant.

Astronergy is very pleased to supply its superior ASTRO modules to meet the Hydro-Solar Complementary Power Plant’s high requirements for reliability and durability of PV modules to generate clean electricity, creating a sustainable and net zero carbon future for the region.
