Jolywood to Stop New Industrial Silicon and Polysilicon Projects

PVTIME
 – On 8 March 2024, Jolywood (Suzhou) Sunwatt Co., Ltd. (Jolywood, 300393.SZ), a leading manufacturer of n-type bifacial solar modules based on TOPCon technology, announced that it intends to cease its industrial silicon and polysilicon production due to current market conditions.

The project, located in Gujiao City, Shanxi Province, China, was initiated by Jolywood in March 2022 with a total investment of 14 billion yuan. Phase I includes production lines with an annual output of 200,000 tonnes of industrial silicon and 100,000 tonnes of high-purity polysilicon, with investments of 3.2 billion yuan and 1.1 billion yuan respectively. The project is expected to be completed in 2024. Phase II includes production lines with an annual output of 90,000 MT of polysilicon and will be advanced according to market conditions.

Currently, the project is suspended due to unfavourable market conditions with low prices and there is uncertainty whether the project can be successfully commissioned.

In addition, Jolywood announced that its high-efficiency solar cell production base is progressing well, with the first phase of 8GW of high-efficiency solar cell production capacity operational and the second phase of another 8GW in the commissioning stage.

Furthermore, the photovoltaic backsheet production project initiated by Jiangsu Jolywood New Material Technology, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Jolywood, has been approved by the Environmental Impact Assessment Institution and is progressing well. According to Jolywood, about 882 million yuan will be invested in the backsheet project to provide transparent, white, black and other universal backsheets for general products with an annual output of 250 million square metres.
