The cooperation aims at protecting schools and hospitals from power supply interruptions caused by ongoing missile attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. Both organizations are looking for partners to contribute to the 100RESforSchools and 50RESforHospitals programs, in which 150 institutions are to be equipped with solar and storage solutions.
PVTIME – Energy Act for Ukraine Foundation and Menlo Electric, photovoltaic components distributor, will jointly develop solar and storage installations for schools and hospitals in Ukraine. In the first phase of cooperation, the Foundation, together with Menlo Electric, will equip up to 10 Ukrainian hospitals and schools with solar plants with a total capacity of 300 kW. The projects are intended to ensure electricity supply to critical needs of schools and surgery and intensive care units of hospitals through the hybrid solar power and energy storage systems. Foundation also organizes an elective course on sustainability at every school within the campaign 100RESforSchools.
The Foundation’s first project was completed in November 2022 at the Irpin Academic Lyceum `Mriya`, in cooperation with BSW-Solar, German Solar Association, and German Federal Foreign Office.
For the second site, carried out jointly with Menlo, the Foundation selected Irpin Lyceum No.1 specializing in arts. The school was damaged during the occupation of Irpin city in the spring of 2022, when it became a shelter for pupils, parents, and teachers during the severe shelling of the city. The installation is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2023. There is also a third project scheduled in the pipeline, a children`s hospital in Chernihiv region. The installation of solar modules and energy storage systems will secure the safe supply of electricity to the neonatal intensive care unit of the hospital.
In order for a school to qualify for the program, it must meet several criteria. Each of the chosen schools needs to have more than 500 pupils that are studying onsite. The facility should be away from the front line and needs to have a bomb shelter.
“In 2022, we launched our Energy to Power Your Future charity program with the mission to install free of charge PV installations for institutions that take care of children. Until now, the program had 7 installations completed and in in development across EU. Our cooperation with Energy Act for Ukraine increases that number to 17. We will be donating and delivering 300 kW of photovoltaic components for schools and pediatric hospitals in Ukraine. This will allow not only for the functioning of facilities cut off from electricity during the war, but also will help them save on electricity bills after the war is over` said Bartosz Majewski, CEO at Menlo Electric.
“We are extremely glad to partner with Menlo Electric and provide partial energy independence to Ukrainian schools and hospitals. Our projects 100RESforSchools and 50RESforHospitals aim not only to provide the opportunity for facilities of social and critical infrastructure to function despite power interruptions but also create a basis for the sustainable reconstruction of Ukraine. “– Yuliiana Onishchuk, Founder of Energy Act for Ukraine Foundation
For the following projects, Menlo Electric and Energy Act for Ukraine are continuously looking for partners and donors. All parties interested in helping Ukrainian children facilities are welcome to contact the Foundation via email address: Energy Act for Ukraine Foundation firstname.lastname@example.org or Menlo Electric email@example.com
The Energy Act for Ukraine Foundation is a Ukrainian charity organization that is engaged in the elimination of energy poverty in Ukraine caused by the war. To date, more than 12 million Ukrainians suffer from electricity shortages due to constant attacks. The Foundation’s main goal is to ensure energy independence to facilities of social and critical infrastructure as well as civilians by providing access to decentralized renewable energy and portable energy equipment (generators, energy storage systems, powerbanks, lanterns).
