PVTIME – A total of €433.44 million in funding has been granted to 524 innovative renewable energy ventures through the second RENOINN funding cycle by Spain’s Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge. This financial support comes from the national Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan.
Each approved project incorporates energy storage equipment and covers agrivoltaics, floating solar power, infrastructure-integrated renewable facilities, community self-consumption projects, and renewable heat pump installations. These developments will provide 1,225.66MW of new generating capacity, primarily from solar photovoltaic systems, and 2,320.72MWh of storage resources — eight times the storage capacity awarded in the initial programme round.
Catalonia has the most projects with 189, followed by the Valencian region with 69. Extremadura and Andalusia each have 19 projects. Government officials have noted that these projects will promote the integration of renewable storage, community-run power consumption, and decarbonisation in the heating sector.
Agrivoltaic installations with storage receive the largest subsidy, totalling €234 million across 118 projects. Over half of this sum will go to farms growing cereals, olives and fruit, where solar panels are fixed to supports higher than four metres to allow farm work to continue underneath.
Additional public finance includes €37.1 million for 29 floating solar facilities, mostly serving irrigation reservoirs; €65.4 million for 47 infrastructure-linked renewable sites; and €45.7 million for 274 community power projects, which are set to assist more than 9,000 vulnerable energy users. Grants totalling over €51 million will support the installation of 56 geothermal and ambient-source heat pumps for heating electrification. All projects must satisfy the do-no-significant-harm criteria required for NextGenerationEU capital.
