CNPV Realises First Large Scale Captive Consumption Solar Project in India

CNPV Solar Power SA, a public limited liability company organized under the laws of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg and a leading integrated manufacturer of solar photovoltaic products, today with Cheenu Group of Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, India announced the advancement of the first large scale captive consumption Solar utility project in India as part of their 10MWp strategic agreement.

Cheenu Group’s continued business expansion was hindered by lack of available power and rising electricity acquisition costs, with dramatic adverse effects on segments of their operations. The initial solution was to establish a 2MWp Solar Power Plant with CNPV’s Optimal Premium Series Solar PV modules (CNPV-295P) for long term clean energy generation at their Coimbatore facility to supplement the power shortage concerns for their textiles division, allowing uninterrupted progress and delivering associated “bottom line” benefits.

Mr Prabhu Devarajan, Chief Executive of Cheenu Group iterated the impact of power shortages, “In the event that the local infrastructure cannot support our power needs, the effects to our business can be catastrophic. We also wanted to be the forerunner in fulfilling the Solar Power Obligation imposed by the state electricity utility and therefore decided to set up our own captive consumption solar power plant. Our module selection was focussed on quality and performance, and after compiling and comparing the technical features of several manufacturers concluded that CNPV are able to demonstrate the most significant benefits in terms of high quality, energy yield, and long term performance. We are extremely happy with the technical guidance and support extended by CNPV in the smooth execution of the module supply and look forward to developing the next tranche of the 10MWp with CNPV, during second half of 2013.”

“The delivery of real value is our constant aim,” conferred Mr Bypina Veerraju Chaudary, CNPV’s COO & CTO. “The Cheenu project is particularly gratifying as it amplifies the value to customer of our services. We are elated to participate in Cheenu’s forward thinking plans of generating and consuming 100% of the energy created.”

Cheenu Group’s additional expansion plans now encompass the provision of EPC services and solar module distribution for off grid use in Southern India. Clearly the benefit to their business from solar PV power generation has many facets, and from their philosophy of being a major participant within selected industries, it is forecast that many other businesses will also soon be able to experience similar gains.
