CNPV Proves “Severity 6” in Salt Mist Verification

CNPV Solar Power SA, a public limited liability company organized under the laws of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg and a leading integrated manufacturer of solar photovoltaic products, today achieved the maximum rating when tested against the severe salt mist corrosion test IEC 61701 Ed. 2.0. Their rating within the standard was at maximum severity 6, which calls for frequent change of salt formation and drying periods which may result in severe salt corrosion.

Severities [1] and [2] are commonly used as a general corrosion test in component and quality assurance procedures, when the item is subject to continuous salt and water exposure. Severities (3) to (6) are intended for products where under normal use there is a frequent change between salt-laden and dry atmosphere; this inclusion of dry periods leads to corrosion mechanisms which can be quite different from those under constantly humid conditions.

“This is another achievement, within our active pursuit of providing the solutions that will attain maximum revenue generation for partners, through extended life and removal of disruption to power harvesting’, said Mr Bypina Veerraju Chaudary, CNPV’s COO & CTO ‘Not only do we choose to conform to these valuable standards, but also we are able to demonstrate that we can achieve the most extreme performances when compared to others. In an ideal world, solar PV modules would last forever, and while we at CNPV have not quite attained this status as yet, we can demonstrate that by leading the way towards this utopian goal, CNPV’s partners are experiencing unprecedented and uninterrupted revenues from their installations.”

To some, it may appear that the severe salt mist corrosion test is somewhat of an unnecessary stipulation to place upon a solar PV module; This assumption overlooks the implicit associated benefit for modules not exposed to high concentration salt environment, namely that all modules are to some extent exposed to the corrosive effects of the environment in use. By leading the way within the high concentration and “in extremis” tests, the CNPV modules are radically outperforming alternatives within the more “normal” environment to which most modules are subject. With their existing class leading power harvesting, already high survivability rates and industry leading insured warranties, the addition of the verification of “severity 6” capability, provides even greater opportunity for CNPV’s partners and their customers to fully capitalise revenue generation within our saturated solar PV market.
