$450m credit backs rPlus US renewables pipeline

PVTIME – rPlus Energies has secured a USD 450 million credit facility to support the development of its solar and battery storage project portfolio in the United States. The arrangement takes the form of a three year revolving facility, which provides borrowing capacity and letter of credit support for early stage development and construction activity.

The credit package is supported by revenue streams from approximately 1GW of operational assets within the company’s portfolio. Two flagship assets, the Green River Energy Centre and Pleasant Valley Solar 2, entered commercial operation and secured dedicated term financing earlier this year. CIBC served as lead left arranger and administrative agent, with a syndicate of North American financial institutions joining the financing. The capital will mainly target utility scale renewable assets located across the American West.

Corporate revolving facilities deliver greater operational flexibility than debt arranged on a standalone project basis. This structure allows developers to deploy capital across multiple schemes at different development stages, rather than negotiating separate financing terms for each individual site. Access to this form of pooled funding carries growing importance for independent power producers working within the constrained liquidity environment for US clean energy.

No allocation plan for the USD 450 million across individual projects has been disclosed. The company has not released updated delivery timelines for its pipeline as a result of the financing closing. The expansion of solar and storage capacity in the American West continues to face material constraints from grid interconnection rules and extended permitting lead times, even where development capital is in place.
