PVTIME – As announced on 30 October 2026, Econergy has completed the purchase of a 106MW portfolio of fully commissioned battery energy storage assets within the United Kingdom. The renewable energy investor intends to carry out technical upgrades across the acquired sites to convert them for long-duration energy storage operation.

Prior to this transaction, Econergy held 90MW of live battery storage capacity in the UK. This acquisition increases its total operational domestic battery energy storage system (BESS) footprint to 196MW and its number of grid-connected storage assets to six. The firm also has a 1.6GW pipeline of battery storage schemes under development across the country, reinforcing its strategic focus on British flexibility markets.
Each of the four newly-purchased sites currently operates at a one-hour duration. Proposed modifications would increase their storage duration to up to three hours. This extended discharge capability will enable these assets to respond more quickly to market changes, smoothing out the output of variable renewable energy sources and capturing value across wider price movements within Britain’s power system.
Storage now represents around 45% of Econergy’s total project portfolio and 40% of its advanced-stage development pipeline. No financial terms relating to the asset purchase have been made public at the time of reporting.
