Phase 2 kicks off for world’s largest green hydrogen complex

PVTIME – China Energy Engineering Corporation has broken ground on the second phase of its integrated green hydrogen, ammonia and methanol complex in Songyuan, Jilin Province. This facility is the world’s largest development of its kind and is on the key project monitoring list managed by China’s National Energy Administration.

Once the second phase is fully operational, the combined annual green ammonia output from phases one and two will increase to 600,000 tonnes. This expansion will transform the site from a pilot demonstration to large-scale commercial production of renewable, hydrogen-based chemicals.

The development relies on wind and solar power to fuel electrolysis hydrogen production, forming a complete industrial chain for the manufacturing of low-carbon synthetic fuels and feedstocks. The project’s inclusion on the national priority tracking roster reflects central policy support for increasing green hydrogen industrial capacity in north-east China.
