2.2GW! Alpex Solar launches TOPCon manufacturing facility in Uttar Pradesh

PVTIME – Alpex Solar has brought a new 2.2GW G12R TOPCon solar cell manufacturing plant into commercial operation in the Koshi-Kotwan Industrial Area in Mathura, Uttar Pradesh. Spanning 900,000 square feet, the facility is the first gigawatt-scale integrated TOPCon cell production line in Uttar Pradesh, developed to deliver high-efficiency, high-power photovoltaic products to India’s domestic solar market.

This expansion of the firm’s manufacturing capacity marks a significant step forward, extending its business scope beyond module production. The company now operates an integrated industrial matrix covering solar cell manufacturing, PV module production, EPC engineering services, solar water pump systems, and aluminium frame manufacturing. Unveiled in 2024, the project involved a total investment of 6.42 billion Indian rupees (equivalent to 76 million US dollars). Alpex Solar has filed an application with India’s Ministry of New and Renewable Energy for the facility to be included in the second version of the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers.

The company states that the new plant underpins its backward integration strategy and drives the development of local PV manufacturing in Uttar Pradesh. Vertical integration enables tighter corporate control over core raw materials, technical standards, and product quality while improving responsiveness to continuous changes in the industry.

Founded in 1993 and headquartered in Greater Noida, Alpex Solar entered the PV module manufacturing sector in 2007. It currently has an annual module production capacity of 1.2GW, with ongoing expansion in Greater Noida set to increase this figure to 3.6GW. Its two existing production sites span a combined area of 212,000 square feet.

Alpex Solar has planned an additional five manufacturing bases across Greater Noida, Koshi-Kotwan and Madhya Pradesh, as well as a dedicated 5GW solar ingot and wafer factory. All of the new manufacturing facilities are expected to begin operating in phases before 2030.
