PVTIME – On 3 September 2026, a landmark 140MW battery energy storage system in Alytus, Lithuania, reached a key commercial milestone. The asset is being developed jointly by BLEnergy, Shamir Energy, and Second Foundation.

This project represents Europe’s deployment of an innovative floor-agreement revenue guarantee framework. This structure mitigates commercial risks for storage operators and provides a new financing instrument that can be used to secure bank financing for the continent’s battery storage sector. It provides minimum revenue security for project parties, while offering the opportunity to generate extra income from favourable market conditions.
The three partners bring complementary capabilities in development, asset management, and algorithm-led market optimisation. The facility is scheduled to enter commercial operation in Q3 2027, with total projected investment standing at approximately €60 million.
