$1bn! Chinese Consortium Signs Green Aluminium Smelter Deal in Kazakhstan

PVTIME – According to an announcement made on 28 September 2026, Inner Mongolia Wanjiang Investment Group and Xinjiang Sanbao Industrial Group have signed a framework cooperation agreement with the Abai Region of Kazakhstan for the construction of a large-scale green power aluminium smelting facility.

The $1 billion project is designed to have an annual production capacity of 300,000 tonnes. To ensure that the entire aluminium production process is powered by clean energy, the consortium will build a 1GW wind farm next to the smelter. Construction is scheduled to commence in March 2027.
