This latest growth outperforms the 1.27GW capacity registered in June 2026 and the 1.59GW recorded in the same month the previous year. Utility-scale, ground-mounted solar schemes were the primary growth driver, contributing 917.7MW across 246 projects. Meanwhile, rooftop solar installations added 628.5MW, and plug-and-play balcony solar systems delivered 62MW. A further 241MW was attributed to retrospective project registrations, as estimated by the federal authority.
Between 1 January and 13 August 2026, cumulative national PV additions reached 9.38GW, comprising 5.12GW from ground-mounted facilities, 4.02GW from rooftop arrays, and 346.5MW from plug-and-play solar units. By the end of July 2026, Germany’s total installed photovoltaic capacity was 127.38GW.
In July 2026, the German government released a revised version of the Renewable Energy Sources Act. The updated legislation proposes replacing fixed feed-in tariff support for newly built renewable energy assets with a direct market trading mechanism. This policy shift is set to reshape the operational framework for Germany’s renewable energy sector, pending official enactment.
