Freedom Forever Files for Bankruptcy

PVTIME – Freedom Forever, a prominent US residential solar installer, has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection amid mounting legal disputes and financial distress. This comes as the company grapples with multiple ongoing lawsuits that have undermined its operational stability.

Formal bankruptcy proceedings were initiated earlier this week when the company submitted its petition to the US Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware. Company filings confirm liabilities in excess of USD 500 million, alongside total assets ranging from USD 100 million to USD 500 million.

Wood Mackenzie data highlights the firm’s dramatic market decline. In 2025, Freedom Forever was the second-largest US residential solar installer, with a 6.1% market share, behind only SunRun. However, by the final quarter of the same year, its market share had fallen sharply to 3.9%.

The bankruptcy filing follows last week’s significant development, when Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton announced an investigation into Freedom Forever and other residential solar installers, including SunRun. The investigation centres on alleged fraudulent and deceptive practices within the companies’ sales activities.
