PVTIME – At approximately 22:15 on 19 December 2025, a lithium-ion battery storage facility operated by Convergent Energy and Power caught fire at 28 Church Street, Village of Warwick, New York. This triggered a coordinated emergency response involving the Warwick Fire Department, the Warwick Police Department, the Orange County Hazardous Materials Team, and the Emergency Services.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the fire was caused by water infiltrating the battery system, which is similar to the cause of a previous fire at the same site in 2023. By 22 December, the fire had been contained within the facility, and emergency personnel remained on site to oversee ongoing safety protocols.
On 20 December, the Village of Warwick issued an official notice about the incident on its website. Fire officials stated that Convergent Energy and Power had advised firefighters to maintain a safe distance, and that relevant personnel had subsequently set up safety fencing and launched air quality monitoring.
The company noted that public safety is its top priority, adding that accepted best practice involves containing the fire, cooling the area, and managing the situation while protecting nearby structures and equipment. The company explained that systems are monitored 24/7 via a mix of automated sensors, human-monitored cameras, and controls, and noted that the system shut down automatically when the alarms were triggered, with operators subsequently activating the manual emergency stop. The system has been idled pending a further on-site investigation, with the immediate focus being on containing and resolving the incident. The company also stated that it is too early to speculate on the cause, and that it will continue to cooperate closely with the Fire Department, the Police Department, and the Village of Warwick.
