8.2 GWh! Germany adds battery storage in nine-month period

PVTIME – According to analysis published on 25 October 2026, official market register data held by Germany’s Federal Network Agency shows that 8.2GWh of new battery storage capacity came into operation across the country in the first nine months of 2026.

The dataset records capacity brought online between January and September. This installation volume reflects a significant year-on-year expansion within Germany’s energy storage market. The underlying figures form part of the national market master register maintained by the federal grid regulator.

Market observers point to the growing adoption of battery assets to provide system flexibility for Germany’s expanding renewable energy fleet. However, register statistics may still be adjusted upwards as late installation submissions are finalised by market participants.
