3GW! Avaada Electro launches first TOPCon cell line in Maharashtra

PVTIME – Avaada Electro, the manufacturing arm of the Mumbai-based Avaada Group, has commissioned the first 3GW production line of its 6GW N-type TOPCon solar cell plant in the Butibori Industrial Zone in Nagpur. The remaining 3GW of annual capacity is now being ramped up.

According to company documentation, the production line achieves a peak conversion efficiency of 25.5% under standard test conditions. The 16- and 18-busbar cell designs are engineered to enhance power output, reliability, and energy yield.

Vineet Mittal, Chair of Avaada Electro, said that the facility would underpin India’s green industrialisation and its goal of achieving full domestic solar technology independence. He added that the integrated sustainable industrial park demonstrates the group’s commitment to localised manufacturing in the face of deglobalisation trends, reducing reliance on overseas imports and establishing India as a leader in the global energy transition.

Combined, Avaada’s Nagpur and Dadri sites have a capacity of 8.5GW for the production of N-type TOPCon dual-glass modules. A further 5.1GW of module capacity is in the pipeline, which will increase total module manufacturing capacity to 13.6GW.

The group also plans to build a separate 6GW cell facility in Greater Noida, which will increase its total cell capacity to 12GW. A 3GW silicon ingot and wafer production line is to be built in Nagpur, completing the group’s vertically integrated PV supply chain and strengthening supply chain resilience and operational efficiency while reducing logistics costs through full domestic value chain localisation.

The Avaada Group, the parent firm, holds a renewable energy pipeline totalling over 17.7GWp. This comprises 7.2GWp of operational assets and around 10.5GWp of projects under construction.
Last month, the group secured nearly USD 950 million in debt financing for three utility-scale renewable energy projects. This includes a flexible renewable project in Bikaner, Rajasthan, and two 300MW solar plants in Rajasthan and Gujarat. Construction of all three assets is underway, with phased commercial operation targeted for fiscal years 2027 and 2028.
