PVTIME – Dubai-headquartered renewable energy developer AMEA Power has finalised key investment and service agreements for the construction of a 250MW/1,000MWh standalone battery energy storage facility in Uzbekistan’s Bukhara Region. The contracts, signed in Tashkent on 16 October 2026, mark a major milestone for grid-scale energy storage across Central Asia.

This stand-alone BESS asset is designed to deliver peak-shaving and grid-balancing services for Uzbekistan’s national power network, operating for four full hours at maximum output. It will absorb surplus power during periods of low demand and discharge electricity at times of heightened consumption, creating vital system flexibility as Uzbekistan brings growing volumes of wind and solar generation online.
Two legal agreements have been concluded: an investment agreement with Uzbekistan’s investment authorities, and a battery storage services contract with the state-owned off-taker Uzenergosotish JSC. The project supports Uzbekistan’s national policy target of reaching 4.5GW of installed energy storage capacity by 2030 as part of its wider renewable energy transition roadmap.
This scheme adds to AMEA Power’s existing presence in Uzbekistan, where the company is already developing a 150MW/300MWh BESS project near Tashkent. Building on its track record of large-scale storage deployment across Africa and the Middle East, the developer will oversee the Bukhara-based site’s full project development, financing, and subsequent operational management. No firm construction start date or commissioning timeline has been publicly disclosed as part of the agreement announcements.
