16GW! Tongwei Solar to Launch Solar Cell Project in Sichuan Province of China

PVTIME – On 10 July 2023, a signing ceremony was held for a high-efficiency solar cell project initiated by Tongwei Solar in Meishan City, Sichuan Province, China.

This particular project is designed to reach an annual production capacity of 16GW of high-efficiency solar cells, with a total investment of 5 billion yuan. Construction is scheduled to start in Q3 2023 and once operational, the project will generate an annual output value of 12 billion yuan and tax revenue of 300 million yuan.

Tongwei started its business in Meishan City in the 1980s and is now one of the largest photovoltaic companies in the world with a market value of more than 300 billion yuan, supported by agriculture and new energy businesses. As a leading PV manufacturer with huge production capacity, Tongwei Soalr has formed a complete industry chain of PV products covering upstream, midstream and downstream. Two of Tongwei’s production bases are currently located in Meishan City to secure its supply chain. And the new project is expected to attract upstream and downstream PV enterprises to invest and settle in Meishan City, expand their production capacity and jointly build a PV manufacturing cluster to provide reliable products and services to customers and partners around the world.
