W | Masdar Unveils Two Strategic European Clean-Energy Investment MoUs

PVTIME – Masdar, a global clean-energy developer, has signed two memoranda of understanding with leading counterparts in the German energy sector. These agreements pave the way for significant prospective investment in offshore wind and battery storage in Germany and other European markets. The agreements were signed during the President of the United Arab Emirates’ official state visit to Germany.

One non-binding agreement was concluded with the major energy company RWE. This agreement aims to explore joint bids in upcoming German offshore wind auctions, with an estimated investment value exceeding €3 billion. This agreement builds on Masdar and RWE’s long-standing collaboration on European offshore wind assets.

A second memorandum has been finalised with Luxcara, an independent German energy infrastructure asset manager. Both parties will explore the possibility of jointly deploying battery energy storage systems alongside offshore wind capacity, with the option of evaluating additional relevant technologies. The total potential value of this partnership exceeds €5 billion.

These planned investments will build upon Masdar’s existing European presence, which already encompasses a 15.6GW renewable energy portfolio. Masdar operates the fully commissioned 476MW Baltic Eagle offshore wind farm in Germany. These agreements further strengthen the United Arab Emirates’ position as a long-term strategic investor in Europe’s energy transition.
