First Solar to Sue 5 Top Solar Module Manufacturers for Patent Infringement

PVTIME – First Solar, Inc. (Nasdaq: FSLR), a leading American solar technology company and global provider of eco-efficient solar modules, recently sent letters through its attorneys to five leading solar module manufacturers, including JA Solar, Jinko Solar, Trina Solar, LONGI and Canadian Solar, for infringement of solar module patents, according to First Solar’s website.

First Solar believes the above five competitors are infringing its patents on a leading solar technology, executives said on a conference call on Tuesday.

In July, First Solar said it held patents on its TOPCon crystalline silicon photovoltaic technology and was investigating infringement by competitors. First Solar’s TOPCon patents stem from its 2013 acquisition of a crystalline silicon cell technology company called TetraSun, which resulted in the acquisition of the company’s TOPCon patents related to cells and crystalline silicon cell manufacturing.
