ES | 18GWh US Battery Alliance Strengthens Storage Supply Chain

PVTIME – US energy technology firm NeoVolta has formed a five-year strategic manufacturing and supply partnership with its majority-owned subsidiary, NeoVolta Power, and South Korean battery manufacturer SK On. Effective from 2027 to 2031, this reciprocal cooperation framework will cover 18GWh of domestic US battery storage production and supply activities.

The core agreement guarantees that NeoVolta Power will receive 9GWh of US-manufactured LFP pouch cells from SK On. This long-term supply of cells will support the expansion of NeoVolta Power’s BESS manufacturing operations at its Pendergrass facility in Georgia. This facility develops storage solutions for utility, commercial, industrial, and AI data centre applications across the US market.

A supplementary collaboration arrangement forms the second component of the partnership. Throughout the five-year term, SK On will supply an additional 9GWh of domestically produced LFP cells, with NeoVolta Power undertaking full battery pack assembly for subsequent supply back to SK On. This dual-structured cooperation delivers the partnership’s total operational scope of 18GWh.

The multi-year agreement appoints SK On as the primary LFP cell supplier for NeoVolta Power’s entire BESS product range. It also supports the company’s plans to expand the manufacturing site’s capacity, including the potential installation of a second production line for pouch-type LFP cells. The facility’s first production line is progressing steadily through the commissioning and ramp-up phases, and the site is expected to reach an annual BESS output capacity of 8GWh by 2028.

Ardes Johnson, NeoVolta’s Chief Executive Officer, confirms that the partnership is a key milestone in the company’s expansion into large-scale energy storage and the development of domestic manufacturing. The secured US cell supply will support growth in factory capacity, while the reciprocal pack manufacturing model will diversify the firm’s operational and revenue capabilities within the US clean energy sector.

Daejin Choi, SK On’s Head of ESS Business, indicates that the strategic alliance strengthens the company’s market position within the US BESS industry. Integrating SK On’s domestic LFP cell technology with NeoVolta Power’s advanced assembly capacity enables both companies to develop highly competitive energy storage products that can adapt to evolving industry demands.

NeoVolta Power’s purpose-built manufacturing site in Georgia is designed for the production of commercial and utility-scale BESS. The combination of locally manufactured LFP cells and domestic pack assembly enables the firm to deliver high-quality energy storage solutions that meet the demand in the market for a US-centric supply chain infrastructure.
