PVTIME – The Spanish energy company Moove has started building the Onuba green hydrogen facility at the La Rábida Energy Park in Palos de la Frontera, Huelva. This project marks the first phase of the wider Andalusian Green Hydrogen Valley initiative, which the company describes as the largest green hydrogen project currently under construction in Europe.

The first phase involves installing 300MW of electrolysis capacity, with the option of expanding to 405MW, subject to grid availability and board approval. Total investment in this phase exceeds €1 billion, including a dedicated photovoltaic plant to supply renewable electricity to the electrolysers.
Moeve holds a 51% stake in the project. Masdar and Enalter, controlled by Enagás Renovable, are participating as equity partners.
Once operational, the facility is expected to produce approximately 45,000 tonnes of green hydrogen and prevent around 250,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions each year. This hydrogen will be used to produce aviation, road and marine fuels, as well as to decarbonise chemical and fertiliser production processes.
The Andalusian Green Hydrogen Valley is set to achieve 2GW of electrolysis capacity across sites in Huelva and Cádiz.
