Chinese polysilicon imports reach record high in February

The total amount of polysilicon imported by China reached a record high of 7,615 tonnes in February 2012, Digitimes reports. The figure was an increase of 62.6% on January and imports increased by 129.6% when compared to February 2012. The total import amount for polysilicon during January-February 2012 was 12,296 tonnes according to figures obtained from Chinese customs statistics.

The majority of Chinese polysilicon imports came from the US, an estimated 3,666 tonnes in February, up by 154.8% on month. The country also imported over 1,700 tons from South Korea and 1,493 tonnes of polysilicon came from Germany. In just one month the number of Chinese firms importing polysilicon increased by 12, to 26 in February 2012.
