PVTIME – BNZ has started building two battery energy storage systems in the Lazio region of Italy. With a combined capacity of 216MWh, the batteries will be integrated with the company’s existing solar installations to create hybrid solar-storage assets.

Each site has a power capacity of 27MW and an energy storage capacity of 108MWh, configured for a four-hour discharge. The assets are linked to the Rinaldone and Camposcala photovoltaic plants. Grupotec is responsible for constructing the Rinaldone battery system, while Elecnor is undertaking the works for Camposcala. Both facilities are expected to be commissioned before the end of 2026.
This project is part of BNZ’s wider European development strategy for flexible renewable assets. Adding storage to existing solar generation optimises the output of established sites and delivers greater responsiveness to the needs of Italy’s electricity grid. The firm’s overall European storage pipeline totals 850MW, with 530MW scheduled for delivery across southern Europe by 2027.
BNZ continues to expand its presence as an integrated renewable energy operator in the Italian market. Financial details for this battery storage development have not been disclosed.
