872MW! Goldwind Secures Wind Turbine Order in Brazil

PVTIME – Goldwind Science & Technology has signed a contract with Casa dos Ventos, Brazil’s largest renewable energy developer, for the Sento Sé wind farm project. Located in the northern Brazilian state of Bahia, the project has a total installed capacity of 872MW and will comprise 109 Goldwind GWH182-8.0MW wind turbines.

Goldwind will be responsible for supplying, transporting and installing the turbines, as well as commissioning them. The company will also provide 30 years of full-scope operation and maintenance services.

The Sento Sé project is the largest single onshore wind power project in Brazil. Once operational, it is expected to generate approximately 4.5 billion kWh of clean electricity annually, reducing carbon dioxide emissions by around 920,000 tonnes per year. Some of the green power generated will support Casa dos Ventos’ data centre projects under development across Brazil, linking renewable energy generation with the country’s growing digital infrastructure needs.

Lucas Araripe, Executive Director of Casa dos Ventos, stated that the company was pleased to establish a strategic partnership with Goldwind to advance the Sento Sé project, with some of the generated electricity serving the green energy requirements of their data centre developments.

Wang Hai, Goldwind’s Group Business Vice President, described Sento Sé as a strategically significant project for the company, noting that Goldwind would draw on its extensive experience in supplying green power to data centres to deliver the project to the highest standards.

Goldwind has been active in the Latin American market for over 15 years, achieving a cumulative installed capacity in the region of over 3GW. The company’s first wind turbine manufacturing base in Brazil, located in Camaçari in the state of Bahia, began operating in August 2024 with an annual production capacity of up to 150 units. The GWH182 series turbines produced at this facility have obtained FINAME localisation certification from Brazil’s National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES). This certification enables project developers to access policy-backed financing.
