ES | 725MWh! METLEN sells Chile storage-solar asset to Copec Flux

PVTIME – The Greek industrial and energy group METLEN Energy & Metals has reached an agreement to sell its Tamarico II hybrid renewable project to Copec Flux, a subsidiary of the Chilean energy firm Copec specialising in the project. The hybrid renewable asset is located in Chile’s Atacama Region and was built to supply power and capacity services to the national electricity grid. The asset hosts a battery energy storage system with an initial capacity of 725MWh, with the technical provision to expand this to 925MWh in the future.

The facility also incorporates 165MW of solar photovoltaic generation capacity alongside its battery storage infrastructure. Under the agreed terms, Copec Flux will take full ownership of Tamarico II once it reaches commercial operation status. Neither party has released the financial value of the transaction publicly.

This divestment is part of METLEN’s established asset-rotation strategy, whereby the group develops renewable energy assets before realising value through targeted sales. The deal strengthens the existing commercial partnership between METLEN and the Copec Group and opens up the possibility of further joint investment across Chile’s renewable and battery storage pipeline.

Industry observers note that solar-plus-storage assets such as Tamarico II support grid stability as Chile continues to scale up its domestic renewable energy rollout.
