PVTIME – LONGi has outlined plans to invest CNY 203.53 million in developing a 100MW silicon-perovskite tandem cell pilot production line. The proposed facility, which will be located within the existing premises of the LONGi Central Research Institute, will undertake systematic verification of tandem cell manufacturing processes and complete production equipment in order to accelerate the industrial translation of high-efficiency PV technologies developed in laboratory settings.

This pilot project is a significant step towards the commercialisation of perovskite-based technologies, building on the company’s achievement of a global efficiency milestone for tandem cells. In July 2026, independent testing by the ESTI certified a conversion efficiency of 35.5% for LONGi’s silicon-perovskite tandem cells, which were developed in-house. This sets a new worldwide benchmark for this technical route.
Theoretically, silicon-perovskite tandem cells can achieve a conversion efficiency of up to 43%, which exceeds the 33.7% limit for conventional single-crystal silicon cells defined by Shockley and Queisser, thus securing their position as a core next-generation high-efficiency PV technology. Construction of the 100MW pilot line will complete LONGi’s integrated industrial innovation system, which covers laboratory research, pilot process validation, and large-scale mass production preparation.
