45GW BC! TCL Zhonghuan Initiates PV Production Retrofit Programme

PVTIME – On 2 July, TCL Zhonghuan published a series of regulatory disclosures confirming board approval for a significant technical upgrade across its solar cell and photovoltaic module manufacturing sites. The upgrade will require an investment of CNY 2.6 billion in total, with construction due to start in July 2026 and full production capacity expected to be reached by the end of Q1 2027.

With CNY 1.4 billion in funding, the 20GW cell retrofit programme will begin to be commissioned in phases from Q3 2026. The work covers a 6GW production line in Quzhou and a 14GW facility in Xinzhou Photovoltaic Industrial Park. Both are being upgraded from TOPCon to BC technology by DAS Solar, a subsidiary of the group, and its Xinzhou division, respectively.

An additional CNY 1.2 billion will fund the 25GW module upgrade initiative, which will see five production facilities switch from TOPCon to BC manufacturing. These sites comprise 3GW of capacity in Quzhou, 4GW in Yixing, 9GW in Tianjin, 8GW in Jingshan, and 1GW in Zhangzhou in China. Each site is managed by a designated group subsidiary at its registered industrial address.

Once all retrofits have concluded, 100% of the firm’s cell capacity and around 50% of its module output will use BC technology. TCL Zhonghuan notes that BC photovoltaic devices deliver high conversion efficiency, strong low-light generation, hot spot resistance and premium visual characteristics, making them suitable for high-value market segments. Drawing on its extensive BC patent portfolio, production infrastructure and cross-departmental resource synergy, TCL Zhonghuan will launch competitively priced, high-performance products to strengthen its global position in the BC photovoltaic industry.
