0% Tariffs for Cambodian Solar Imports

PVTIME – The Ministry of Commerce has confirmed that Cambodia has introduced sweeping tariff reforms covering renewable energy equipment and low-emission vehicles. These measures, which will take effect on 1 April, will eliminate or reduce import duties on solar power systems, lithium batteries, energy storage devices, and electric vehicles, in order to encourage the adoption of clean energy.

Import duties on nine tariff codes have been reduced from 7% to 0%, including those on electric vehicle chargers, electric rice cookers and solar lamps. Levies on 179 tariff codes have been cut from 15% to 0%, including those on electric vehicle motors, solar power systems, lithium batteries for solar energy systems, laptops, aircraft and automobiles. Zero duty also applies to energy storage products, electric cooking appliances, and all hybrid electric vehicle (HEV), plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) and electric vehicle (EV) passenger and commercial vehicles.

Tariffs on 92 tariff codes for plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) have been lowered from 35% to 7%, while duties on 12 tariff codes, including electric ovens, toasters and pure electric passenger cars, have been reduced from 35% to 0%. The export tariff on bauxite has decreased from 25% to 10%.

These policy adjustments follow the volatility of international oil prices linked to the conflict in Iran, which has increased inflationary pressure on Cambodia’s economy and households. These tariff reductions aim to address the global energy crisis and accelerate the transition to environmentally sustainable energy alternatives among domestic consumers and businesses.
