750MW! Sahaj Solar to Establish Module Plant in UAE

PVTIME – Sahaj Solar, an Indian EPC service provider and solar module supplier, has confirmed plans to develop a solar module manufacturing facility with an annual capacity of 750MW in the UAE via its subsidiary.

This represents a strategic shift for the firm, which has redirected investment from a previously proposed domestic plant in India to overseas operations in order to capitalise on global pricing conditions and economic advantages.

Sahaj Solar initially considered locating the new facility in India before revising its strategy. Company management cited current market dynamics and the opportunity to leverage global pricing and economic benefits as the main reasons for choosing the UAE. This decision is intended to provide easier access to global markets and avoid specific trade barriers, although no further details have been released.

The UAE facility will be operated by a provisional subsidiary, Sahaj Energy Solar Panels Manufacturing. Sahaj Renewable Energy Trading FZCO, a wholly owned subsidiary of Sahaj Solar, will manage its establishment and hold a 51% stake in the new entity. Sahaj Solar also plans to secure strategic partners for the proposed plant. China’s Changzhou Almaden has previously announced plans for a 500,000-tonne solar glass factory in the UAE, highlighting the region’s growing appeal.

As of the 2024 financial year, Sahaj Solar operates a 100MW module production facility at its Bavla site in the Indian state of Gujarat, and plans to increase this capacity to 1.6GW by the 2027 financial year. The company’s TOPCon series modules have been added to the ALMM list through a collaboration with Cosmic PV Power, an existing ALMM-listed manufacturer. The ALMM framework, maintained by India’s Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), permits brands to market and sell products under their own name at approved manufacturing sites.
